    Mother Elephant with Babies
    This powder
jar has a finial with a mother elephant and two baby elephants. The two babies are standing on either side of the mother and all three have their trunks curled upward. The outer surface of the lid is smooth. Part of the outer surface of the bottom is stippled. This stippled area slopes outward from both the top and bottom. The stippled areas are divided by a smooth, flat middle band which is about one inch wide. The diameter of the bottom is about six inches. This same bottom will also be found with other tops - "Jackie," the flapper girl in a seated position, and "Gretchen," the finial torso of a semi-nude with her arms folded over her chest.  This style bottom was also used with a flower frog top, many of which have disappeared. Therefore, powder jar collectors will find an abundance of these bottoms and a shortage of lids.
