For Sale:New Release Kit Product by the All Nation Line. For traction modelers, Peckham's High Speed Trucks for O Scale. Kit components (sideframes and bolsters) are modeled after the M.C.B. 32 series. A working truck after assembly allows modelers to take it a step further with detailing if so desired. The Peckham Manufacturing Company, Kingston, NY made trucks including powered trucks for street railway companies. The M.C.B. 30 trucks were made for the CA&E. The M.C.B. 32 trucks were manufactured for other street railway systems like the Columbus, Delaware & Marion Electric Railway, Columbus, Ohio. Since I have an affinity for trolley cars, interurbans and the like, I wanted a set of trucks for my O Scale equipment. So, I developed and 3D Printed the most crucial parts.
The following is a list of parts that come with this kit:
1 Bolster consisting of 2 pieces per truck.
2 Sets of sideframes.
8 Coil Springs.
4 1-72 flathead brass screws.
8 journal bushings.
4 wheel sets mounted on axles.
The sideframes are printed using the Prusa Poly Carbonate filament as is the bottom half of the bolster that mounts to the sideframes. The top half of the bolster is printed using Prusa ABS plastics. The first step to assemble this kit is to push the bushings into the journal box holes. The coil springs should be inserted into the sideframes and serve only cosmetically. The bottom bolster has clearance holes for the 1-72 screws and a micro pilot hole in the sideframe that must be drilled and tapped for the 1-72 screw. The tap hole for the 1-72 should not be drilled through the sideframe. It should be drilled just deep enough to facilitate a few threads, such that the brass screw snugs up, yet allows the bolster to rotate. Attach 1 sideframe to the bolster first, followed by placing the wheel sets in the frame and mounting the 2nd sideframe to the bolster. One side of the wheels on the axles are insulated.
Next, this kit gives the modeler an option with a choice of utilizing the top half of the bolster based on the final car height desired when mounting the truck to the car body bolster. It should be noted that the king pin hole in the bolster is a minimal pilot hole that may be drilled for a specific machine screw mounting to be decided by the modeler. The bottom bolster can be rotated for a high profile body height or turned 180 degrees for a lower profile. The top bolster overall is approximately 10.5mm in depth and sits on top of the bottom bolster between the sideframes. It can be glues or simply mounted to the bottom bolster with a couple of optical screws not supplied with this kit. This would conclude the assembly of the truck using the 33" All Nation wheels, whereby the truck should roll freely down the track.
All 3D printed parts come as is off the Prusa Printer build plate and may require minor cleanup. The Poly Carbonate is a tough durable plastic that prints at a relatively high temperature range. The ABS is comparable to the plastics used for injection modeled models. The kit is a representation of the M.C.B. 32 truck and is not an exact replica. Additional cosmetic detail can be added by the modeler such as the non-tilting sideframe mechanism within the bridge truss support or the brake rigging.
Sold as is straight off the Prusa Printer built plate, all sales final no returns. PLA is not dishwasher safe and may deform in a hot automobile in the summer time as it has a relatively low glass-transition temperature.
